Travel Information

Kent State University is located in northeastern Ohio approximately 40 miles southeast of Cleveland and 15 miles east of Akron.

Travel by car

The University is easily accessible from Interstates 76 or 80. The hotels reserved for the conference are located near Interstate 76 at the Route 43 exit. From 76, KSU is about a 10 minute drive, and from 80, it is about a 30 minute drive 

Travel by Air: Local Airports Akron-Canton & Cleveland-Hopkins

KSU is approximately 35 minutes from Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) and 60 minutes from Cleveland-Hopkins (CLE) airport. Akron-Canton is smaller regional airport, while Cleveland Hopkins is an international airport. 

Due to its smaller size, the Akron Canton Airport is relatively faster and more easy to move through compared to most airports. However,  taxis are often not present and waiting at the terminal as with larger airports. To avoid unnecessary waiting time the airport strongly suggests that you reserve a ride in advance. Additionally, all major rental car companies are available at the airport.  Please contact the rental car company for operating hours. Similar ground transportation options are available from Cleveland-Hopkins Airport.

The Liquid Crystal Institute uses Thomas Limousine, 330 Kennedy Road, Akron, Ohio, 44305 http://www.thomaslimousine.com/. Pre-schedule by calling 800-799-5001 –  credit card is required to book. Also, please state that you are coming in for a KSU event to ensure discounted Kent State pricing. Please call  800-799-5001 if your flight is delayed (by 30 minutes or more), cancelled or changed. The driver will meet passenger at baggage claim for the flight.  The driver will have a sign with the passenger’s last name. Two hour notice is required to cancel without charge. Prices are: From Cleveland-Hopkins to Kent: $80.50; From Kent to Cleveland-Hopkins: $70.50. From Akron-Canton to Kent: $68.45, From Kent to Akron-Canton $63.45.  Prices include base rate, parking, fuel charge

Directions from Hotel to Meeting Location at the KSU Student Center

Google map from Hotels to KSU Student Center. By car, this takes less than 10 minutes. Head North on Water Street (Rt. 43) about 3 miles. Turn right at traffic light on Summit Street (Advanced Auto Parts on the right). Proceed 1 mile. Student Center Visitor Parking and the Student Center will be on your left. Turn left on Risman drive at the traffic light, shown as the balloon A on the image to the right. The parking lot will be to your left on Risman drive. The conference will be held at the Student Center Ballroom, on the second floor of the Student Center. The Student Center is the large building to the north of the Risman Drive parking lot, and to the left of the 13 story library building. Parking

Parking is available in the Visitor Parking Lot in front of the Student Center. Complimentary $2.00 parking permits will be available at the conference registration desk. These permits need to be presented at the exit booth when exiting the parking lot. Note: There are no in/out privileges in the Visitor’s Parking Lot. If you exit the lot at lunchtime, it will be necessary for you to obtain another permit at the registration desk before exiting from the parking lot at the end of the day.
